Sleep For Tennis
Sep 03, 2024We all know there are 24 hours in a day, but have you ever stopped and thought about where those hours are spent? If you sleep 8hrs per night, that sleep time uses up a third of your 24hrs. Do the numbers on that over the course of your lifetime and it is a lot of time!
You basically sleep a third of your life! So if something is chewing up a third of your time, I would imagine you want to get it right?
In today's blog, I wanted to share some insight into the importance of quality sleep and give you some tools you can use to optimize your sleep quality.
Have you ever put much thought into your sleep? By that I mean the quality of your sleep, the duration of your sleep, and whether you have a sleep wind-down routine.
What about if I told you that optimizing your sleep will increase your energy, reduce the risk of injury and illness, plus increase your mental capacity – concentration, engagement, and decision-making? All these areas will improve with good quality sleep practices! The good news is it is easy to achieve, you just need to use a few basic tools to get started…
To make sure I covered the basics well enough for this blog I recorded a short video for you to watch. In the video we will discuss the following:
- A recent sleep story of mine.
- The benefits of quality sleep.
- How much sleep do we need?
- How to optimize your sleep.
If you don’t have time to watch the video right now, here is a rundown on how to optimize your sleep;
- Create a regular sleep/wake cycle.
- Depending on your age. Aim for 7-10 hrs sleep a night.
- Avoid eating closer than 2 hours before bedtime.
- Avoid foods/drinks high in sugar or caffeine after 12 pm.
- Create a sleep wind-down routine.
- Use the bathroom right before going to bed.
- Minimize screen usage 3 hours before sleep.
- Keep your room dark.
- Adjust the room temperature to suit your sleep.
I hope you got something out of this blog and have a better understanding of the benefits of quality sleep!
